the walz happens

5 continents — 12 cities — 36 interviews

it all started in october 2014. we were sitting at the banks of the rhine in the autumn sun, contemplating about the future. a future with thousands of opportunities, futuristic learning and work methods, natural disasters and our role in this complex world.

the result? we booked flight tickets, bought film- and photo-equipment and packed our suitcases to go on a journey around the world. we interviewed successful practitioners, leaders, entrepreneurs and theorists to explore the future role of the designer.

designers know how to observe problems and visualize the solutions. but what does this mean for the designer's role in our complex, fast and ever-changing world? what responsibilities do designers have? what challenges do they have to face now and in the future? and which methods will be most successful?

these and other questions, we asked:
tom de blasis . nike foundation // yves behar . fuseproject // aaron draplin . draplin design co // matthieu aquino . pepsi co // leland maschmeyer & brian collins . collins // paul stafford . designstudio // nicole jacek . nj(l.a.) // allan chochinov . professor at school of visual arts // safir bellali . vans // sam ewen . guild ... just to name a few.

our objective? a book chronicling our journey featuring the interviews, projects and trendsetting ideas of the people we have met, as well as our own work and experiences from the "walz“.
shown here is a prototype of the book. the walz continues and new interviews with designers from europe will be added.
